The East Coast went from heatwaves to Fall in a blink of an eye. It’s been rainy, damp and cold and in Philly, we haven’t seen the sun since late last week. Reward for any sightings.
Phillydelphia
‘Phillydelphia’ | Daily Drawing #540
One of the lawyers in the impeachment trial said they should come to his office in ‘Phillydelphia’.
I’ve lived in Philly my entire life and never heard it pronounced this way.
The Mountains Are Calling (Again)
The original drawing of this phrase goes way back to the early days of my Daily Drawing series. Recently someone reached out to me to ask about getting the lettering done as a vinyl transfer, and once I looked at the original drawing I couldn’t resist redoing the piece.

The Weekend at the College Didn’t Turn Out Like You Planned
I was never (ever) a Steely Dan fan, but I always thought this was a kickass lyric.
Also, I may or may not have had some bad ‘weekends at the college’.

Loud, Fast and Sloppy
‘Loud, Fast & Sloppy’ | Daily Drawing 447.
I’m still having a tough time with this one. During the weekend I found myself reading old articles and watching clips of Anthony. I’d get bummed out and try and forget about it, then I’d see but yet another picture or a link and go, “Oh, fuck.”
This quote from from an run-and-gun style promo he shot for what I’m guessing is an early season of ‘No Reservations’. It’s classic Bourdain: punk rock t-shirt, round sunglasses, standing from of CBGBs. (search Anthony Bourdain “CBGB’s” on Vimeo for the clip.)

Nope Easter
‘Nope Easter’| Daily Drawing #390.
The big storm that was supposed to hit Philly was mostly a bust. Still lots of shoveling and ice and stuff closed and I hate this and want to move to a warm place.

Why Must You Rain on My Parade?
'Why Must You Rain on My Parade?' | Daily Drawing #314
Lots of rain in Philly this week, I'm just happy it's not snow. I'll gladly take a few days of gloom during the week. I do my best work when I'm not distracted by the siren song of a sunny day.
The last few weeks I've been doing a lot of lettering and illustration on the iPad Pro. While the device is super handy and an amazing creative tool, nothing beats putting the lead to paper.
I did a practice sketch in pencil, cleaned it up a little, then just traced it in ink. One pass, no retouching, no photoshoppery. Feels good to work on paper.
