Today the infamous ‘Drexel Shaft’ near 30th Street Station was imploded. The structure, located above the old Penn-Coach train station, was a steam power plant built back in the 1920’s. The structure was taken out of operation in 1964 and has remained empty ever since.

Philadelphia is not exactly a barbeque town. The quality places are few and far between. For every gem like Sweet Lucy’s Smokehouse, there’s a Famous Dave’s (dinner in a fake log cabin anyone?) or a place that claims to serve “Real Barbeque” (quotes intentional).

Review: The 8th Annual Garry Maddox BBQ Challenge

Yesterday we attended the 8th Annual Garry Maddox BBQ Challenge. The event happens each year outside Citizen’s Bank Park from 4pm-7pm prior to a Phillies game and is held to raise money for at-risk youth with the Youth Golf and Academics Program.
