This is Why I Love Digg.

by johnsuder on January 18, 2007

I spend waay too much time during the day reading the feeds coming from Digg.com. I use Netvibes to consolidate all my feeds, it also pulls in my Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and eBay auctions all on one tidy page. For me (ADHD poster child), having all this in one place is key. (But I digress, more on my attention deficit disorder later.)

Sometimes I’ll click on a post that catches my eye – more times than not, the posts are some Top 10 or Top Whatever List (I heart lists, easy to skim and consume..). Other times they contain breaking news, like the one I saw today:

“REPORT: Taliban Spokesman Caught With Anthrax”

Of course, I clicked on this one, being a news junkie and a watcher of Dubya’s “War on Terror™”. But sometimes, before I click on the “dugg” link, I read the comments, because weak sites get pumelled if they get too many Diggs, and you can’t always get to the actual link right away.

Many times I’ll cruise through the whole thread, just to see people flame each other, but there’s also many on there with an actual intelligent thought (or counterpoint) to what’s been posted. And sometimes, there’s just some funny people out there. So, I read the headline again: ”REPORT: Taliban Spokesman Caught With Anthrax”..and I scroll to to read the comments.

About a third of the way down I see a comment from someone named sockpuppet:

“I think the real news here is who knew Anthrax got back together? Will Whitesnake be opening for them?”

As Kenny Banya would say ”That’s gold, Jerry – GOLD!”
